The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most photographed bridges in the world. It spans the San Francisco Bay between the city of San Francisco and Sausalito in Marin County. Despite the popular belief that it was named after its color, the bridge was actually named after the Golden Gate Strait which connects the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. When it was built in 1937, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, although its length now puts it as the ninth longest.
The bridge has been photographed from every possible angle, probably at all times of the day and during all kind of weather. Whether it is a photo of the famous San Francisco fog rolling over it or simply a night photo shot on a clear night, the bridge is magnificent. A quick search on Google will show thousands of wonderful photos along with hundreds of thousand bad photos. So why photograph it? This shot was taken from the Sausalito side of the bridge at the Vista Point next to Fort Baker. We had spent the day with Carol’s brother and his wife and they wanted to see the bridge before they flew home the next day. The sun was starting to set set leaving half of the bridge in shadow.
Great shot. Love the POV on this one. I think people should continue to photograph objects, no matter how many others there may be. Try to find a less common point of view. We never know what may show up in our images.
