This image is from my trip to Jasper National Park a few years ago. I had looked forward to visiting Jasper and the iconic Spirit Island on Maligne Lake. As all best laid plans, it rained pretty much all of the three days we were there. I was determined to take the boat ride to the island. We got to Maligne Lake during one of the brief moments the rain had stopped. This was the scene as we started walking to get the tickets for the boat ride. I thought that the gray of the mountains and the stormy skies contrasted well with the red roof and boats. It was one of the better shots of the day as we did encounter a significant rain on our ride to Spirit Isalnd.
Awesome. I love clouds like that. The desolate, grey sky contrasting the colorful boat and “shed” is fantastic.

I must agree with everyone else that the contrast between the sky and the boathouse roof really makes this shot. The stormy sky also does a great job conveying the mood of the image.

Fantastic image, Len! I didn’t get to spend enough time in that end of the park. They were doing a controlled burn there and it made for horrible shooting conditions. I definitely need to go back.

The lighting has really helped the saturation of both the reds and the greens. These two colors, with the red to the fore, are nicely set off by the varying grey tones in both the mountains and the clouds.

The dark sky really does provide a stark contrast against the boathouse. Glad you were able to capture this one before the rain took hold.

I love the way that light changes before and after a storm. The whole focus of a scene can change from peaceful to dramatic in seconds. Great capture the mountains and storm clouds nicely juxtapose against the red of the roof.

We had a fantastic trip to Spirit Island a few years ago on a tour of BC - it was a perfect day and it was one of the most idyllic places I’ve been to. We were very lucky. There’s an intriguing contrast between the calm of the foreground and the approaching storm to come in the sky in your shot. Great colour for the roof too. - makes a nice contrast.

This is one of my personal favorite places in the whole world. As a boy growing up, we used to come here almost every year on vacation. Two years ago Mrs. Toad and I went on a vacation to see our son in Edmonton and stopped by here on the way back, and I have a shot of this exact building. This is a personally meaningful image to me, Len, it reminds me of my mom. You’ve done a top drawer job here, my friend, absolutely incredible.
